James F. Scheimer

James F. Scheimer died Sept. 2, at his home in Vienna, Va. after a long battle with cancer. He was 62.

Born in Great Falls, Mont. Nov. 30, 1949, he grew up in Santa Cruz, Calif. where he met his future wife.

He completed a bachelor's degree in physics, a master's in geophysics at Stanford University and a Ph.D in seismology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He had a long and diverse career, starting at LLNL in 1978, with SAIC for a decade, and from 2007 to the present as the chief technology officer at SES Government Solutions.

He was a life-long learner and vastly curious man with varied interests. A man of both faith and science, he enjoyed biblical history. He was a woodcarver, maker of stringed instruments, home brewer and ham radio operator. He studied in Austria and worked in Tajikistan and Naples.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, and children Michael and Elizabeth.
