James Alan Janzen

James Alan Janzen, a resident of Livermore, died May 27. He was 68.

Born March 26, 1944, in Chicago, Ill., he graduated from Reseda High School in Reseda, Calif. He received a bachelor's degree in physics from California State University, Northridge in 1966 and a master's degree in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1970.

He served more than 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, and during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1989 as a lieutenant colonel.

Janzen also completed tours of duty at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Grand Forks Air Force Base, Grand Forks, N.D.; Space Division, Los Angeles; Pentagon, Washington, D.C. and with the Department of Energy in Germantown, Md. He worked at LLNL for 20 years starting in 1989.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Hargraves) Janzen; daughters, Stephanie (Janzen) Goldsmith of Livermore, and Julie Janzen of Livermore.
