Jack L. Garibaldi

Jack L. Garibaldi, a long time Pleasanton resident and Lab retiree died Dec. 21. He was 74.

Born Aug. 17, 1935, in San Jose, he graduated from Amador Valley High in 1953.

After serving in the Army for two years, he went to work on the Southern Pacific railroad where he worked on large steam engines. He was awarded a certificate of life membership in the Pacific Locomotive Association. He was an avid train lover and a collector of railroad memorabilia.

His passion for all things mechanical carried on at LLNL in the Applied Research Engineering Division’s Mechanical Engineering group where he worked from 1965 to 1993, receiving several commendations for his work.

He loved to design and build things and spent many hours in his home shop where he had an array of machine tools and equipment. His love for cooking and food presentation carried over to his design hobby. He designed and machined several kitchen tools and used them in his daily cooking with fresh vegetables he grew in his garden.

Garibaldi was preceded in death by his wife Lois. He is survived by his daughter Shari and grandson Joey.

Services were held Jan. 9 in Livermore and Pleasanton.
