Herman Frederick Henderson

Herman Frederick Henderson, a Lab retiree and resident of Tracy, died Nov. 7. He was 88.

Born May 24, 1921, in Tecumseh, Okla., he lived most of his life in Union City, Calif., having spent the last five years in Tracy.

Henderson joined the Army in 1943, served in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.

He worked most of his life in the construction trade. His work with various companies, including Bechtel and Homes & Narver, took him all over the world, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Alaska.

He retired from the Lab in 1991 after 17 years.

He was an active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church for 38 years, the Knights of Columbus, the Order of Alhambra and the Society of Professional Estimators, where he rose to the title of national president.

He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Henderson is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bernice; a daughter, Denise Guadalupe and her husband Henry; their children, Trevor, Tanner and Brady; son Brian Henderson and his wife Cristina, and their children, Noah and Olivia; son Gary Henderson and his wife Michele and their children, Bailey and Chase; and a sister, Ina Peterson of Lewiston, Idaho.

A memorial mass will be celebrated today (Nov. 13) at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 703 C St., Union City. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Henderson’s name to Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Union City.
