Harrison ‘Jack’ Cochran

Harrison “Jack” Cochran, who worked at the Lab during the 1960s, died March 2.

A Pleasanton resident, he was born in Melrose Park, Ill., on April 29, 1932. He was a graduate of Kaysville High School in Utah and served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1953, including during the Korean conflict.

He came to Livermore in 1960 and worked at the Lab as a mechanical technician. In 1966, he left the Lab and started his own business – Jack’s Gardening. When he received his landscaping license, he changed the name to D.H. Jack Cochran Landscape. In 1994, he opened Cochran Landscape Materials on Greenville Road in Livermore until selling it in 2001 and retiring.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Diana; daughters Collen Slyngstad, Cathlyn Dagnino and Cheryl Cochran; stepsons, Ward, Brent, Doyle and Kyle Dixon; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service was held March 8 in Livermore. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1020 Mocho St, Livermore, CA or to a charity of choice.
