Glen Harvey Lathrop

Livermore resident and Lab retiree Glen Harvey Lathrop, died Aug. 28 in Pleasanton, after a brave battle with end-stage dementia and diabetes. He was 79.

Lathrop was born Mar 31, 1931, to Harvey and Dortha Lathrop in Walsh, Colo. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-53 in the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic.

Soon after returning from the service, he was employed by the Lab as a mechanical supervisor from 1955 until his retirement in 1990.

After his retirement with his wife Lorraine, he moved to Midlothian, Texas, to oversee the Supercollider project from 1990-1993.

Throughout his life he enjoyed coaching his son’s soccer teams, working on cars, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine, who died in 2007.

He also was preceded in death by his father, Harvey; mother, Dortha; brother, Gene; and sisters, Diane Carnes and Carol-Sue Blaylock-Chavez.

Lathrop is survived by his children, Gregory Lathrop, Cynthia Fraser and James Lathrop, and grandchildren, Aimee Lathrop, Jennifer Fraser and Travis and Kyle Lathrop.

Services were held in Livermore Sept. 7. Remembrances and contributions may be made in Lathrop’s name to the Livermore Police Officer’s Association P.O Box 2641, Livermore, CA.
