Gerald 'Jerry' L. Hadley

Gerald ”Jerry” Hadley, a longtime resident of Livermore and a Lab retiree, died June 3. He was 79.

Born April 13, 1932, in Ventura, Calif., Hadley moved to Oakland with his sister during the 1940s to live with his grandparents after their parents died. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, and later became a reserve in the Air National Guard.

In 1956, he married his wife of nearly 55 years, Margaret Polo.

After living in Hayward for a few years, the couple moved to Livermore. In 1961, Hadley began work at the Laboratory. He retired from the Lab in 1995.

Hadley’s life-long hobby was in amateur radio. He was a member of the Livermore Amateur Radio Klub (LARK) and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES), which provided support for many events and emergency drills in the community.

He and his wife began to travel after retirement, seeing sites across the country. They both enjoyed the trips, meeting and sharing experiences with new and old friends.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hadley; his son, Dean and wife Sandra Hadley of Manteca; Kirk and wife, Diana Hadley; and grandchildren, Kyle and Logan Hadley of Salida.

A memorial service will be held June 16 at 1 p.m. at Callaghan Mortuary in Livermore. Donations can be made in Hadley’s name to Kaiser Hospice and/or Good News Bears of Livermore.
