George M. Bonawitz

George M. Bonawitz of Phoenix, Arizona died May 7. He was 80.

Bonawitz was born in Billings, Montana on March 15, 1934 to Harold and Beatrice Bonawitz and was raised in San Francisco.

Bonawitz was a veteran of the Korean War where he performed duty in Korea and Japan. He worked for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 26 years retiring in 1993.

Bonawitz became an Arizona Diamondbacks fan after moving to Phoenix, but his favorite team was the Oakland A's. He loved coaching his daughters in softball, camping and fishing and spending time with his family. He was an excellent craftsman and a jack of all trades. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

Bonawitz was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and son, John. He is survived by sons, George (Lori) and Robert (Margie); and daughters, Debbie (Bill), Charmaine (Gary), Shirley (Brett), Lorraine and Michele. He had 10 grandchildren.
