George Damoulos

George Michael Damoulos, Livermore resident and former Lab Human Resources deputy director, died March 7 of respiratory failure after a long battle with complications from surgery.

Damoulos was born April 4, 1932, in El Paso, Texas to Marguerite and Michael Damoulos. He attended Oakland Technical High School and then entered the Air Force.

Upon his return from service he continued his education, graduating from Sacramento State. He went on to receive a master’s of business administration degree from UC Berkeley in 1962. He worked in Human Resources management for Sandia National Laboratories, TRW, EG&G, Physics International, EPRI and Los Alamos National Laboratory. He retired as the Human Resources deputy director for LLNL in 1993.

“George was a wonderful mentor to me and all of us in Human Resources who had the privilege of working with him,” said Art Wong, associate director of the Lab’s Strategic Human Resources Directorate.

He was an avid sports fan with a special admiration for football. He was instrumental in establishing the Pop Warner Youth Football Program in Livermore. He also enjoyed bowling and played on a league team for more than 20 years at the Granada Bowl. He was a member of the Tri-Valley Church of Christ, where he was an integral part of the church family.

He cherished his time spent with family and friends and will be remembered for his fun, loving ways and his light-hearted spirit.

Damoulos is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lisla Damoulos; his children, Tina Pierce of Vancouver, Wash., Michael and Chris Damoulos of Sacramento; Kim Gregory of Livermore, Kathy Asmussen of Pleasanton, Dan Dorsey of Martinez, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren. He also is survived by his sister, Betty Danska of Pleasanton.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 21, at 1 p.m. at the Tri-Valley Church of Christ auditorium, 4481 East Ave., Livermore. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Damoulos’ name to the Tri-Valley Church of Christ to assist with church projects and programs.
