Eric Alan Cleveland

Eric Cleveland of San Francisco died July 5. He was 54.

Cleveland was born Aug. 3, 1958, to Richard and Shirley Cleveland. In 1976, he graduated with the inaugural class of the State College High School Alternative (Delta) program in State College, Penn., where he made many lifelong friends.

After attending Penn State for a year, Cleveland moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he graduated from San Francisco State University. He worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and later co-founded a printing company in downtown Oakland. Through these and many subsequent careers, Cleveland accumulated a large contingent of friends. Many of these friends and family gathered in San Francisco in July to celebrate and remember his life. Their stories clearly showed that Cleveland lived his life with a sense of adventure. His friends recollected sailing trips on the San Francisco Bay and around the tip of Florida, motorcycle journeys across country and unplanned road trips to distant rock concerts, to name a few.

Cleveland is survived by his long-time companion, Wendy Mortensen; his parents, Richard and Shirley Cleveland of State College, Penn.; his sister, Andrea Cleveland Mills (Walt); and his nieces Marian and Susanna Mills of Spring Mills, Penn.
