Edward Villafana

Edward Villafana, a 20-year Lab employee, died Aug. 8.

Villafana was a high-voltage technician assigned to the high-voltage crew in the Electric Utility Group.

Born in New York City, Villafana's educational background included years of professional training combined with college level courses which gave him the ability to put theory into practice.

He was well known throughout the industry for his ability to master all aspects of the production and distribution of electrical power. He was able to successfully interface with others within his field, from engineers and scientists to first-year apprentices.

He also served as an instructor in the Lab's electrical apprenticeship program.

Villafana is survived by his wife, Kathryn, three sons, two daughters and several grandchildren survive him.

A rosary will be held Friday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel 419 Scenic Drive, Modesto. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1813 Oakdale Road, Modesto. (Note: There is a chance the service will be moved from 11:30 a.m. to noon.)

Villafana's family will provide a reception immediately after the funeral at the Holy Family Catholic Church Parish Center, 4212 Dale Road, in Modesto.
