Dorothy Louise Crampton

Dorothy Louise Crampton, a resident of Livermore and a Lab retiree, died Oct. 3 after a long struggle with leukemia. She was 77.

Born Aug. 16, 1932, in Pennsylvania and raised in Manhattan, she was the youngest of eight children. After graduating, she moved to California where she met her future husband, Harold “Bud” Crampton. The couple lived in San Francisco before relocating to Livermore in 1952.

After her children were in high school, she returned to the workforce joining LLNL’s bio-medical department where she worked until her retirement in 1987.

She enjoyed spending time teaching and playing with her children. She was an avid reader who loved word puzzles, art, music and gardening.

She collected dolls and Statue of Liberty memorabilia. In later years, she loved going to gem and jewelry shows, shopping for beads and making jewelry.

She loved animals and had numerous cats and dogs over the years.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Crampton-Pipes and son-in law, James Pipes of Livermore; grandson, Brad Crampton of Nevada and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Bud” Crampton, son, John Crampton, brother, Edward Hanus, sisters, Anna Cuffe, Libby Wacha, Betty Lange, Evelyn Ungar and parents, Gustav and Anna Hanus.

Services were held Oct. 18 in Livermore. Donations may be made in Crampton’s name to an animal rescue charity.
