Donald Walter Rock

Donald Walter Rock died Feb. 27. He was 67.

Rock was born on March 9, 1946, in Port Huron, Mich. He joined the Air Force and developed a love for electronics that fueled a career working in seismology and travel to all continents.

On a trip to Brazil, he met Noeme and was married Feb. 9, 1979, making their home in Albuquerque, N.M., where he worked for the Albuquerque Seismic Center. In 1983, the family relocated to Tracy, Calif. for a job at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he retired in 2006 after 23 years. In retirement, he consulted for Berkeley Labs.

In May 2013, Rock and his wife moved to Camarillo to be near family. In December, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died two months later. Rock was a faithful husband, a loving father, a fun grandpa and an eager servant. He was humble, patient, gentle, hardworking, brilliant and funny.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Noeme; sons, Paulo (Jenn) Leite of Santa Clarita and Uel (Amy) Leite of Camarillo; grandchildren, Daniel, Lily, Luke and Samuel; brothers, Ralph (Geri) Rock of Baltimore Md. and Charles; and sisters, Judy (Keith) Nash and Dorothy.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 8, at 4 p.m. at Faith Community Church located at 723 South D St. Oxnard, Calif., with Pastor Rick Anderson officiating. If desired and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ventura County Rescue Mission, 234 E. 6th St., Oxnard, Calif., 93030.
