Donald Salmi

Donald (Don) Eldon Salmi, a Lab retiree, died Dec. 16. He was 80.

Born Dec. 2, 1931 in Clatskanie, Ore. to Ansel and Edla Salmi, he was raised in Woodson, Ore. He married Ann Westerberg. The family moved to Livermore in 1958 when he was recruited to work as a mechanical engineer at the Lab.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor, extensive antique collection, softball talents and his gift of gab.

He is survived by his daughters, Karin Eavenson and Donna Stayton; sister, Joyce Oliva, Rainer of Oregon; brother, Allen Salmi of Escalon, Calif.; grandchildren, Jamie Matthews, Kelly Ward, Laurie Stayton, Brent Beecher and Cynthia Stayton; and great grandchildren, Max Ward and Gavin Ruggles.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ann Salmi; parents, Ansel and Edla Salmi; and brother Larry Salmi.

A celebration of Salmi's life was held Jan. 5 in Livermore.
