Dennis Patrick Barrett

Dennis P. Barrett, a longtime Lab employee, died Aug. 9.  He was 55.

A resident of Stockton for 22 years, Barrett was born Dec. 29, 1955, in Oakland, to the late Frank and Dolores Barrett.

Barrett worked at the Lab for more than 33 years, most recently as program manager of Packaging & Transportation Safety (PATS) in the Operations & Business Principal Directorate.

He was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Escalon. He was a former coach, league representative and past president for the “Escalon Outlaws” Pop Warner Football teams.

He was a strong supporter of Escalon Cougar Football. He was an avid participant in sports throughout his life with Little League baseball, football and adult softball. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing and boating.

He was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Jim Barrett.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Shelly Barrett of Stockton; sons, Daniel Barrett and Michael Barrett, both of Stockton; two brothers, David Barrett and Richard Barrett; his sister, Patty Spooner and her husband, Dan; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Sharon Manha of Union City.

A visitation is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 15, from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. at PL Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca.  A rosary and mass will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 19399 E. Highway 120, Ripon.  Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, 17871 S. Carrolton Road, Escalon.
