Dennis Hewett

Dennis Hewett, a plasma physicist at LLNL, died April 5. He was 64.

Born Sept. 17, 1947 to Clifford and Lucille Hewett in Girard, Kansas, he received his bachelor's degree in physics from Pittsburg State College, Pittsburg Kan. in 1969 where he was later selected as an outstanding alumni. He received his Ph.D in plasma physics from the University of Kansas in 1973.

Prior to joining the Lab in 1984, Hewett held positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In addition to his career, he enjoyed flying, photography, tennis, skiing, biking with his grandkids and going to their sporting events. He had a passion for knowledge and was interested and accomplished in a wide variety of subjects.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Kovacic; his daughters, Jennifer Rochez of Livermore and Kristen Hewett Hazelton of Seattle, Wash.; sons-in-law, Jonathan Rochez and Ryan Hazelton; and grandchildren Christopher Hewett Rochez and Isabella Grace Rochez. He also leaves sisters Barbara Stuart and Elaine Wallof; sister-in-law Sharon Cowan, and numerous family members and friends.
