Claude H. Dittmore

Claude H. Dittmore, resident of Livermore, died April 15. He was 88.

Dittmore was born Dec. 5, 1929, in San Francisco. He graduated from Washington High in San Francisco and City College of San Francisco. He served in the U.S. Navy in Korea during the war.

From 1953 until 1991, Dittmore worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Technical Photography. At LLNL, a colleague recalls that Dittmore provided imaging diagnostic skills for many of LLNL’s downhole shots at the Nevada Test Site. He was very soft spoken  and very well liked many people. His gentle demeanor and willingness to share his expertise was greatly appreciated by the younger techs who worked with him at LLNL.

 In August 1958, he married Carolyn Van Every. They had two sons, Chris in 1959 and Cliff in 1970.

After retirement, he served both LLNL and UC Berkeley Labs as a consultant. He also was a docent at the Treasure Island and USS Hornet museums and was a member of SIRS 121 and 1st Presbyterian Church. Dittmore and his wife had fun traveling many places in the U.S. and around the world.

Dittmore is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and by his sons and their families, Chris and Brenda Dittmore – Amy, Eric and Sarah of Danville; Cliff and Jenny Dittmore – Ryan and Landon of Roswell, Georgia; his brother, Phil of Bothell, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 20, at 1st Presbyterian, Fourth and L streets, in Livermore. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to 1st Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or a favorite charity.
