Charles Richard Veith

Chuck Veith died June 7. He was 87.

Veith was born in Riverside, California on Feb. 18, 1927. His family later moved to Palm Springs where he graduated from Palm Springs High. He joined the Coast Guard during World War II and served stateside until the war ended. He then joined the Naval Reserve, where he was called up to serve on a minesweeper in the Korean War. He continued in the Reserve until his retirement in 1987 as chief warrant officer.

Immediately after the war, while living in Alameda, Veith worked for Shell Development in Emeryville, later moving to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1960, where he met and married Patricia Taylor, his wife of 53 years. He retired from the National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center at LLNL after 30 years and enjoyed many hours of retirement traveling all over the world with family and friends, fishing with his best buddies Paul and Don and 'Let's Go Fishing,' actively serving in missions at the Valley Community Church of Pleasanton (charter member) and supporting his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Jane of Alameda; parents, Bill and Clara Veith of Palm Springs; and his sister, Hazel Cude of Hacienda Heights.

He is survived by his wife, Pat of Dublin; his brother, Wendell (Barbara) Veith of Palm Springs; daughter, Kitty (Steve) Madison of Livermore; son, Chuck (Darlene) Veith of Manteca; granddaughters, Katelyn Veith of Pendleton Oregon, Clara Madison of Livermore, Jessica Veith (Shae), and great-grandson, Brantley Nelson of Goldendale, Washington.

A private family interment was held at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Valley Community Church, 4455 Del Valle Parkway, Pleasanton on Saturday, June 14, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you support the Missions Ministries of Valley Community Church of Pleasanton.
