Carol Asher Mathews

Carol Asher Mathews of Livermore died Aug. 9, surrounded by her husband, her two sons, a daughter-in-law and granddaughter. She was 73.

Mathews was born Aug. 3, 1940, in Smithville, Mo. She moved to California in 1966 and worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 24 years from 1977 until she retired in 2001.

Mathews loved to travel and visited six continents during her lifetime. She also visited approximately 45 states, with a yearly trip to Sedona and Mesa, Ariz. While she traveled frequently, her trips were always planned around her grandchildren's birthdays as she made a point of spending time with them. She also loved hiking, sailing, reading and donating her time at Grace Cathedral.

Mathews is survived by her husband, Al Mathews; sons, Troy and Michael Williams; step-sons, Derrick and Timothy Mathews; daughters-in-laws, Maria Williams, Darcie Perry, Tasha Mathews and Monica Mathews; her brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Dottie Asher; cousin, Judy Naylor; grandchildren, Ashley, Austin, and Peyton Williams and Blaine, Reed, Garret, Grace and Katelin Mathews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Traci Ann Williams.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held at Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East Ave., Livermore at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29. A celebration of her life will follow from 12-3 p.m. at the Livermore Veteran's Hall, 522 S. L St. Mathews loved bright colors, and it would be a wonderful tribute to her to wear beautiful colors to celebrate her life.
