Calvin George André

Calvin George André died Jan. 26. He was 99.

André was born on Aug. 1, 1924, and grew up in South Dakota. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 where his training took him to University of California, Berkeley. After the war, he settled in the Bay Area, returning to University of California, Berkeley to complete his doctor of philosophy in physics in 1954. He dedicated his career to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), where he held the position of physicist.

He is survived by his wife Dixie André, by his children Erna André, Mary André and Jeanne André, and by his stepdaughters Allison Gerber and Kim Dimock. He also leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren including Garret, Cory-Alice, Emily, Nicole, Danielle, Devin, Michael, and great-grandchildren Natalia, Rumi and Miley.
