Bruce Alan Bettencourt

Bruce Alan Bettencourt died Feb. 28 in Fremont. He was 57.

Born in Oakland on Dec. 18, 1954, to Ernest and Thelma (Gifford) Bettencourt, he graduated from Alhambra High School in Martinez in 1973 and received his bachelor's degree from Cal State Hayward (East Bay) in 1977.

Bettencourt retired after 30 years at the Lab. He worked as a lead technician in the Hazards Control Department, Industrial Hygiene Section.

Bettencourt enjoyed the San Francisco 49ers, San Jose Sharks, trains and his cats.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Gail (Cuneo) Bettencourt; mother, Thelma Bettencourt and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Bettencourt.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 6, at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Road, Concord. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at Oakmont Memorial Park, Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bettencourt's memory may be made to the San Francisco SPCA, 2500 16th Ave., San Francisco, CA 94103 or to charity of choice.
