August (Gus) W. Olson

August (Gus) Olson, a longtime resident of Livermore and Lab retiree, died June 9. He was 75.

Born April 4, 1936, in Chester, Pa; Olson moved with his family to Southern California in 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy from January 1955 to December 1959. After his discharge, he attended Heald Engineering College in San Francisco from 1959-1962 and received a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering.

He worked at the Lab from 1962-1993, in Electronics Engineering, Plant Engineering, and the Engineering Associate Director’s office. He lived in Livermore for 49 years. For years, Olson and his wife, Jane, wrote the retiree's column for Newsline.

Olson is survived by his wife, Jane Olson; daughter, Niki Gouldthread; step-sons Dan and Mike Sharp; and step-daughter, Cindy Eshan. He was preceded in death by wife Mary Sharp.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, at 2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Livermore.
