Anthony Kliss Jr.

Anthony "Tony" Kliss Jr. died March 7 at his home in Livermore. He was 89.

Born Oct. 9, 1921, to Anton and Theresa Kliss in Oakland, Calif., he retired from the Lab after a 25-year career as a carpenter.

Kliss was an avid golfer who enjoyed a long, healthy life, fulfilling his obligations to family and friends with grace and zest.

He is survived by his wife, Belle; five children, Theresa Spraggins, Susan Henderson, Carol Meals, Paul Kliss and Jean Rooney; four granddaughters, Sarah, Alisyn, Samantha and Caitlin; sisters, Mary Dietrich and Dorothy Bold; and brother, James Kliss.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis, and their son, Edward.

A memorial mass was held March 16 at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 428 Maple St., Livermore.

Donations may be made in Kliss’ name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or Kaiser Permanente Hospice.
