Albert M. Garcia

Albert M. Garcia, a resident of Livermore and a Lab retiree, died July 22. He was 88.

Born March 15, 1921, he was raised in Los Angeles. He attended Cathedral High School. He joined the Army Air Force during World War II and after discharge, moved in with his mother in Oakland.

He met his future wife, Shirley Bailey, while he was president of the young adult group at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Oakland. They were married in August 1949 after a two-year courtship. The couple moved to Livermore in 1956. He was employed by the Lab and retired after 32 years.

He was active in children’s faith formation and was head usher for many years at St. Michael Church.

Garcia was preceded in death by his mother Rose Gallego Garcia, father Albert D. Garcia, sister Juan Maria, SNJM, brother Don Gallego and nephew Michael Gallego.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter Kathie Paoni, daughter Teresa Gregory, son Steve Garcia and six grandchildren.

Services were conducted Aug. 6 at St. Michael Church in Livermore. Contributions may be made in Garcia’s memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Michael Church or the Alzheimer’s Society.
