Alan Winans

Alan Ross Winans died April 27, after complications from a heart attack. He was 68.

Born in Stockton, Calif., May 13, 1944, he graduated in 1962 from Franklin Senior High School where he majored in drama and English. He appeared in numerous high school plays there, and went on to perform in the summer Repertory Theatre at University of the Pacific's Fallon House, in Columbia, Calif., in 1963. He attended Delta College, and proved what an accomplished actor he had become in several roles that he was cast in. He performed at Stockton Civic Theatre in "Once Upon a Mattress" in 1964. He attended San Francisco State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

When he returned to Stockton, Winans began working in the hospitality industry, which included many aspects of hotel management. He moved to San Francisco 1967 and started a career with the San Francisco Hilton Hotel Corporation. After living and working many years in San Francisco, he returned to Stockton and began working for LLNL in the engineering field.

He enjoyed singing and performed solos at the First Presbyterian Church in Stockton.

Winans is survived by his sister, Barbara Wallace of Stockton; cousins, Janice Lagorio of Stockton and Luanne Porter of San Jose; longtime friend of 53 years, Robert Jenson of San Francisco; friends Barbara Spradlin, Cheri Jenson-Bailey and Stephen Jenson of Stockton, Michael Thomas of Los Angeles, and John Baker of Salem, Ore.
