Alan McKenzie Raeburn

Alan McKenzie Raeburn, a Lab retiree, died March 22, in Livermore. He was 80.

Born in Sheridan, Wyo. to John S. and Mary G. Raeburn, he was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict and served as a machinery repairman, third class, from 1951-1954.

He was stationed in Guam and San Diego and also aboard the USS Nereus (AS-17), a submarine tender that is currently part of the National Defense Fleet, Suisun Bay, Calif.

Raeburn worked at LLNL as a machinist for 30 years. Before he retired, he was a shop supervisor. He kept in contact with many friends and co-workers throughout the years.

An avid fisherman, he enjoyed going out in his boat and spent many hours fishing with his buddies. He also was a huge sports fan, often watching several games at one time on TVs throughout the house.

Raeburn was a member of the Diablo Valley German Shepherd Dog Club and had German shepherd dogs for nearly six decades.

He is preceded in death by brother, Ian Raeburn, who died in World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice M. Raeburn; children, Mark Raeburn and wife, Laura; daughter, Marla Griffith; and son, Martin; grandchildren, Kyle Ferrulli, Larry Griffith, Kristen Ferrulli and Holly Raeburn; sister, Rosemary Pullin and husband, Don; sister, Dorothy Raeburn , six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
