Demonstrators in 1982

Editor's note: This feature is brought to you by the Laboratory's Archives and Research Center.

This photo shows demonstrators attempting to blockade Lab gates. It appeared on the front page of the Newsline Weekly Bulletin in 1982.

Between 400 and 500 demonstrators tried to disrupt work at the Lab.  One-hundred seventy demonstrators, including anti-war activist Daniel Ellsberg, were arrested when they sat or laid down in the streets in an attempt to block employees on their way to work.
