Teachers as well as students preparing to become teachers will present research conducted alongside scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) during a poster session Friday, Aug. 6, from 1 to 4:15 p.m. The presentation takes place in the Cresta Blanca Room of the Robert Livermore Community Center, 4444 East Ave., Livermore.
More than 80 science teachers from across California and Hawaii will participate in the poster session. Thirty of these teachers have been working at Lawrence Livermore for the past eight weeks -- participating in one of three teacher development programs: Teacher Research Academy, Department of Energy Academies Creating Teacher Scientists (ACTS), and Science Teacher and Researchers (STAR).
The programs enable middle and high school science teachers to develop and maintain mastery in their scientific fields.
“The poster session is a valuable opportunity for community members to view teachers’ research that will not only enhance their classroom science skills, but help bring their state-of-the-art science experience back to their students,” said Richard Farnsworth, manager of the Science Education Program at Lawrence Livermore Lab.
The poster session is open to the public and is free of charge. There is no registration.
The California State University, Science Teacher and Researcher (STAR) program, and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Science Education Program host the poster session.
