Livermore high school students visited the Lab Wednesday for the Department of Energy's (DOE) IT Job Shadow Day. This was the first time LLNL participated in the event that hopes to enlighten local high school seniors about summer internships as well as careers in information technology (IT) at LLNL and other DOE facilities, once they are in college or when they complete their degrees.

A total of 45 students from Granada High School and Livermore High School came to the Lab for a tour of the High Performance Computing Facility and the National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center. They also met Lab senior leaders, participated in discussions on IT related topics, and heard about the cyber defenders program, IT operations, networking and simulations.

The Lab's Chief Information Officer (CIO) program organized the Livermore event. Brookhaven National Lab, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Jefferson Lab also held job shadow days at their sites. The goal is for the event to become an annual occurrence with participation by all DOE facilities.
