Statement by Dr. Bruce Tarter on UC Contract Extension Announcement

"On behalf of the employees at Lawrence Livermore National Lab, I am extremely pleased to hear of today's announcement by Department of Energy Secretary Bill Richardson to begin the negotiation process on the extension of the University of California contract.

This decision is an important one. The Secretary's commitment to this process reaffirms the University's unparalleled scientific reputation and the significant contributions that have taken place at these laboratories.

We look forward to working closely with DOE, the National Nuclear Security Administration and UC on developing and implementing the contract extension and on continuing our vital role as a national security laboratory."
