Saturday fusion energy talk on target

The energy answer may be blowing in the wind

"It's a Breeze: Using the Wind to Power our Future," by Julie Lundquist, LLNL scientist, and Bret States, Tracy High School teacher, will be presented Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Bankhead Theater, 2400 First St., Livermore. Two presentations will be offered at 9:30 and 11:15 a.m.  This is the fifth and final lecture in the Livermore 'Science on Saturday' series this year.

This lecture will explain how wind turbines convert the forces of the atmosphere into electricity for homes, businesses and cars. It will explore how much power could be collected from the wind, how that amount compares to our demands, and how weather forecasts help wind turbines provide even more clean, renewable and reliable energy.

'Science on Saturday' is a series of lectures for middle and high school students. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis; there is no pre-registration. Admission is free.  Directions, maps and a list of lectures are available on the Science on Saturday Website. 'Science on Saturday' is presented by LLNL's Science Education Program.

You be the judge at TVSEF

Judges are needed to review students' projects at the 13th Annual Tri-Valley Science and Engineering Fair sponsored by the Lab and held at the Robert Livermore Community Center, 4444 East Ave., Livermore.

The date of judging is Wednesday, March 25, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This is an opportunity for Lab scientists and engineers to serve as role models for budding scientists.  As a judge you will get to know the students, review and rank their projects and promote science careers. Judging is done in teams and is organized by discipline area.

The annual fair is a means to stimulate interest in science and technology among middle and high school students from public, private and parochial schools within Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon and Sunol.  If you are interested in being a judge, contact ruvalcabaolson1 [at] llnl.gov (Connie Olson) at 424-4640.
