NNSA Defense Programs announces quarterly awards

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Defense Programs on Wednesday announced the recipients of the Defense Programs' Employee of the Quarter Awards. The awards recognize individuals who have gone beyond the call of duty in supporting the mission of NNSA's Defense Programs.

"NNSA Defense Programs is fortunate to have dedicated men and women throughout the enterprise who are truly leaders in their fields working to promote our nuclear security agenda," said Don Cook, NNSA's deputy administrator for Defense Programs. "The work done by the recipients of these awards is a reflection on how NNSA is working to improve the way we manage our resources, including major projects, and our infrastructure."

The selection of the recipients is determined at each site following its own specific criteria. The recipients of NNSA Defense Programs' Employee of the Quarter Awards are as follows:

Aaron Puzder of LLNL is recognized for his work with the first LLNL DARHT hydrotest, which was fired in the summer of 2010.

Other NNSA lab winners include:
  • Mark Zulim of the Lawrence Livermore Site Office is recognized for providing oversight of all facilities and infrastructure at LLNL.

  • Jennifer Honeysucker, Kansas City Site Office, is recognized for her work as one of the primary team members responsible for planning the groundbreaking celebration for the Kansas City Responsive Infrastructure, Manufacturing and Sourcing (KCRIMS) project events held in September.

  • Gary Wells, Kansas City Plant, is recognized for reducing the cycle time and cost needed to fabricate the MC3714 Fireset, a major component of W76 Arming Fuzing and Firing systems.

  • Glenn Morris, Y-12 Site Office, is recognized for coordinating activities required to implement Verification of Readiness to Start Up or Restart Nuclear Facilities and Planning and Conducting Readiness Reviews.

  • Dan Tracy, Y-12 National Security Complex, is recognized for his role in ensuring all Defense Programs production work at Y-12 is accomplished on time and in accordance with exacting program requirements.

  • Kevin Breen, Nevada Site Office, is recognized for his support to the Stockpile Stewardship Program for both the Bacchus and Barolo-A SCEs at the Nevada National Security Site.

  • Robert Platone, National Security Technologies, is recognized for his work as the project manager for construction of two new fire stations at the Nevada National Security Site.

  • Lindsey VanNess, Sandia Site Office, is recognized for outstanding contract administration and leadership excellence in effective and efficient execution of site business operations.

  • J. F. Nagel, Sandia National Laboratories, is recognized for guiding the Sandia B61 Life Extension team through completion of multiple deliverables that are foundational for success of the LEP.

  • Barbara Romero, Los Alamos Site Office, is recognized for her support of Work for Others, Inter-Agency Agreements, Inter-Entity Work Orders, and Cooperative Research and Development Agreements resulting in unprecedented approval and compliance management of these programs.

  • Robert "Bob" Travis, Los Alamos National Laboratory, is recognized for his efforts to lead the successful LANL SM30 Warehouse operations for more than 365 days without an on-site reportable injury, while at the same time assuring the level of customer satisfaction that the institution has come to expect.

  • Brian T. Rhodes, Pantex Site Office, is recognized for his exemplary support in the oversight of the High Pressure Fire Loop Pipe Replacement Project.

  • Jesse Rodriguez, Pantex Plant, is recognized for leading an outage operation to de-energize the high voltage circuits that supply power to a zone at Pantex enabling the plant to successfully complete the most difficult of outage operations for this very important infrastructure upgrade project.

  • Pete Kozak, Savannah River Site Office, is recognized for excellent leadership of Climatological Data National Summary support and Implementation Validation Review team.

  • Patricia "Patty" Bentley, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC, is recognized for her role in exceeding the Reservoir Product Quality goals for 2010.
