WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Administrator Thomas D,Agostino of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) will announce on Thursday (Oct. 9) his approval of the final environmental impact study on his plan to transform the nuclear weapons complex to a 21st century national security enterprise.
He will make this announcement from NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex at Oak Ridge, Tenn. After the press conference, he will hold a media conference call for other press.
Known as Complex Transformation, the administrator will discuss his vision for a smaller, safer, more secure and less expensive nuclear weapons complex that leverages the scientific and technical capabilities of its workforce and meets national security requirements.
Details of the press conference are as follows:
What: Radiation detection trucks, also known as RadTrucks and outfitted with LLNL technology, are being used on the freeways and roads of New Jersey and another state to detect nuclear materials that could be part of a "dirty bomb" or nuclear device. The LLNL technology, called the Adaptable Radiation Area Monitor, also is being used at vehicular entrances to a Western state. One of the RadTrucks, produced by Textron Defense Systems, will be shown as part of a press conference.
