Girls to explore science and math careers at Expanding Your Horizons conference
LIVERMORE, Calif. - "Dream, Imagine, Explore," the 29th annual Tri-Valley Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Math Conference, will be held Saturday, March 15, at a new location — the Diablo Valley College, San Ramon Campus at 1690 Watermill Road, San Ramon.
The conference begins at 8:30 a.m.
The daylong conference is held for young women, grades 6-9, from Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon and Sunol school districts to increase interest and foster awareness of careers in math and science. Young women also have opportunities to meet and interact with role models who are active in math- and science-related careers.
This year’s keynote speaker is Jennifer Links, a scientist at the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Her experience includes work in the fields of genetic variation, gene disruption, biomedical applications of lasers, protein structure and function, and cell metabolism.
A variety of hands-on workshops also are slated, as well as a career fair and science expo. New this year for adults is a program on college planning.
In addition to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories, California, sponsors of the conference include the American Association of University Women and Diablo Valley College, San Ramon Campus.
Registration is limited, and is available Wednesday, Feb. 13 through March 7. For additional information about the conference, go to the Web at https://eyh.llnl.gov/tveyh/ or call the conference hotline at 925-422-2453.
