LIVERMORE, Calif. — Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory once again surpassed its goal in raising money for nonprofit agencies and charities within the Tri-Valley, East Bay and Tracy-Stockton areas. The Laboratory's annual HOME Campaign - or Helping Others More Effectively - raised more than $1.6 million in employee contributions, either through onetime donations or monthly payroll deductions.
Since 1997, when the campaign first surpassed the million dollar mark, HOME has steadily increased the amount of money raised to help groups such as the Tri-Valley Community Fund, Tri-Valley Haven, Shepherd's Gate, Tri-Valley Animal Rescue, United Way and many more. Since 1997 the campaign has raised more than $10 million.
The campaign has surpassed its target goal for the 10th year in a row.
The campaign is held throughout the month of November and part of December and is part of a season-long effort to contribute to the community. As part of the HOME Campaign the Lab holds its annual Week of Caring - in which employees volunteer time and services to select charities. This year a contingent of Laboratory employees volunteered their services to Habitat for Humanity, building homes in the Livermore area.
For the last 16 years the Laboratory also has held "Brighter Holidays," in which Lab offices "adopt" needy families from all over the Bay Area and supply gifts and food during the holiday season. This year the Lab provided 147 families with toys, clothing, food and other necessities.
Founded in 1952, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has a mission to ensure national security and to apply science and technology to the important issues of our time. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is managed by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration.
