STATEMENT ON MICHELLE DOGGETT LITIGATION
University of California and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory officials have resolved a dispute involving former employee Michelle Doggett. The case was scheduled for trial in September 2003, but the parties have reached agreement in mediation. The total settlement is $990,000. Almost half of that amount (approximately $428,000) will go to Ms. Doggett's attorney, Gary Gwilliam.
The Laboratory has agreed to pay Ms. Doggett approximately $33,000 in wages, $264,000 for medical and physical sickness expenses, and unspecified damages in the amount of $264,000.
We appreciate Ms. Doggett's role in reporting incorrect financial charging between accounts, which had been occurring within one Laboratory organization. The Laboratory took corrective actions on all of these matters. We continue to believe that no retaliation occurred; however it is in best interest of both parties to move forward. This settlement allows that to occur.
Founded in 1952, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is a national security laboratory, with a mission to ensure national security and apply science and technology to the important issues of our time. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is managed by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energys National Nuclear Security Administration.
