MEDIA STATEMENT LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY STATEMENT ON LEE HALL INVESTIGATION


During the past few days, there have been a number of mediainquiries on the possible connection between Lawrence LivermoreNational Laboratory, the National Ignition Facility and the death inOctober 1999 of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory employee LeeHall.

The Hall murder is a police investigation. Lawrence LivermoreNational Laboratory is cooperating fully with all law enforcementagencies involved in the issue. However, it is our understanding thatthere are a number of theories or personal scenarios that could haveled to Mr. Hall's death. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratorymanagement knows of no connection between Mr. Hall's death and hiswork on the National Ignition Facility.

Mr. Hall was a dedicated employee who was well liked by his peers,and his managers. His work on NIF involved the mechanical layout ofthe laser beams - an unclassified project. When a problem surfaced inthe laser beam alignment, Mr. Hall was one of a number of individualswho teamed to identify, quantify and resolve the issue.

Mr. Hall's murder was a terrible crime. Lawrence LivermoreNational Laboratory joins the Livermore Police Department and otheragencies involved in the investigation in hoping for aresolution.
