Site 300 controlled burn set for Tuesday

The annual controlled burn at Site 300 is scheduled to begin following the Memorial Day weekend, weather conditions permitting. The controlled burn is conducted each year to help prevent wildfires from spreading to or from the site.

The burn process will involve careful burning along the site fence line and parts of the interior area under controlled conditions. This activity will be conducted by the Alameda County Fire Department under contract with Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC.

Lab celebrates Asian Pacific cultures

The annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) festival was held Thursday at the Lake Haussmann area. Abundant sunshine, comfortable temperatures and the aroma of ethnic foods welcomed Lab employees to the noon event, the last of the month’s activities.

Cultural booths representing the Asian Pacific American Council (APAC), Filipino, Guamanian, Afghani, Bangladeshi, Go Club and Dragon Boat clubs provided information.

Tommy Smith, deputy director of LLNL’s Office of Strategic Diversity Program, thanked attendees for coming to support the festival. "America is a great mosaic," he said. "At the Lab, we celebrate diversity."

Also on hand were cultural presentations by Buk Sing Choy Lay Fut Lion Dance and Swetha Dixit of Kalaikoil Dance and Arts of India. She is the wife of Sham Dixit, a NIF employee.

The proceeds from the food sales go to support the APAC Scholarship fund. The event was sponsored by the Lab’s Strategic Diversity Program and the Weapons and Complex Integration Principal Directorate.
