Media advisory: National summit to address challenges/solutions in clean energy innovation

While faster development and commercialization of advanced clean energy technologies can help our nation address these challenges, the process of conceptualization, product development, prototyping and commercialization of advanced energy technologies is very costly and can take decades to complete. This long and expensive process can make it difficult for companies to find financing -- exacerbating energy challenges and delaying innovation.

To address these issues, leading experts in clean energy technology will convene a National Summit on Advancing Clean Energy Technologies, May 16-17, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, Washington, D.C. It also will be telecast live via the National Summit on Advancing Clean Energy Technologies Website.

The summit will highlight the use of high performance computing as a resource for reducing clean energy development time and cost.

Participants will include members from the Obama Administration, Capitol Hill, science and academia, venture capital and industry. Speakers will include Dr. John Holdren, White House science adviser; Sens. Lamar Alexander, Tom Daschle and Byron Dorgan; former Sens. Howard Baker and Pete Domenici; LLNL Director George Miller and LLNL Deputy Director of Science and Technology Tom?!s D?-az de la Rubia.

Summit organizers include the Howard Baker Forum, the Bipartisan Policy Center and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
