LLNS Community Gift Program

Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC (LLNS) is conducting its annual community gift program to benefit local and area nonprofit organizations for 2009. The deadline for submitting applications is Aug. 5.

The program provides up to $100,000 in funding to support organizations addressing science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (STEM) education, community-service and philanthropic needs in communities having a large population of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) employees. Nonprofit California educational institutions, IRS-qualified 501(c)(3) organizations, and government agencies serving Alameda, Contra Costa and San Joaquin counties are eligible to apply. Gifts will be awarded in amounts from $1,000 to $20,000.

Tracy Library talk on how to get published

Yearning to write that great American novel? Hoping to get your material published? Attend the next summer program at the Tracy Library and find out how it's done.

"Imagine Breaking the Rules to Break In – 10 Tips to Writing a Novel" will be presented by writer Jeff Carlson at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Tracy Branch Library, 20 E. Eaton Ave., Tracy. Carlson is the international best-selling author of the "Plague Year" trilogy. He will offer tips on how to get a novel published and will share some of his own adventures in book publishing.  His books will also be available for purchase and signing after the talk.
