BioSciences and Biotechnology Division Leader Ken Turteltaub joined a panel of industry leaders at the 4th annual Tri-Valley Innovation Forum held last week at Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery in Pleasanton. The forum, which included a business expo and networking session prior to the luncheon panel, was hosted by the Livermore Valley Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Tri-Valley Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

Panelists responded to questions from moderator Peter Burrows, senior writer for Bloomberg Businessweek, as well as the audience, on the state of innovation in the region. Turteltaub commented on the Institute for Translational Biomedicine (ITB), a new Livermore and Sandia venture that brings together public and private entities to help accelerate and improve the success rate for the development of new pharmaceuticals, medical devices and biosecurity technologies. ITB is one of several new collaboration efforts in the Livermore Valley Open Campus.

Other panelists included Ro Khanna, former deputy assistant secretary for U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service at the Department of Commerce, Anthony Zografos, COO of Compact Particle Acceleration Corporation, Christine Wente of Wente Vineyards and Carl Guardino, president and CEO of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group.
