Livermore Police sponsor giving tree

The Livermore Police Department and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is sponsoring a Livermore Giving Tree to help needy families in the community.

The event runs Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. through Dec. 17 at the Livermore Police Department lobby at 1110 S. Livermore Ave.

Simply select a tag from the tree in the lobby and bring a new unwrapped gift, with the tag attached back to the tree. The sponsors do the rest. Monetary donations cannot be accepted but gift cards are welcome.

To arrange sponsorship or for more information, call the Livermore Police Department Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association at (925)371-4976.

Livermore's Talent Competition returns

Last year's "Livermore's Got Talent" program was a great hit, selling out the Bankhead Theater, and it's time again to watch young and hidden talents take the stage. Once again, the top winners in each age category — youth (17 and under) and adults (18 and over) — will take home $2,500.

The competition is presented by the Rotary clubs of Livermore: Livermore Rotary and Livermore Valley Rotary.

This year, the semi-finals at Livermore's Bankhead Theater will be open to the public in front of the judges, who are professional performers. The finals also will be at the Bankhead.

Each contestant is required to submit an audition video or a link to a YouTube video clip. The acts can be up to four minutes. All of the submitted videos will be reviewed and the first round winners will compete in the semi-finals on Jan. 9. The winners of these semi-finals will move on to the finals to be held Sunday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m.
