Lab photographer garners first place in Livermore contest

Bob Hirschfeld, who works in the Lab's Public Affairs Office, won first place in the City of Livermore's Amgen Bike Race Photo Contest 2012.

His photo entitled "Tesla" shows a stream of Amgen Tour of California cyclists racing uphill among grape vines on Tesla Road between Greenville and Vasco roads while a walker strolls by. The Livermore Commission for the Arts announced the winners Monday at an artist's reception.

In addition to serving as a public information officer for the Lab, Hirschfeld often serves as a photographer on site as well. Lori Dempsey, who works at the National Ignition Facility and is an amateur photographer, won an honorable mention in the contest.

Hirschfeld will receive a cash prize and he, Dempsey and the other winners will be recognized at the Livermore City Council Meeting on June 25.
