Kathy Baker selected as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Kathy Baker has been selected as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Director Parney Albright announced Thursday.

As CFO, Baker will be responsible for implementation and oversight of sound financial policies and procedures at the Lab; establishment and maintenance of proper financial system controls; administration of funds; compliance with federal requirements for financial systems management reporting and certifications; communication of resource requirements to external agencies, including preparation of budget submissions and other funding requests. She also will be responsible for managing and leading the tfinance, accounting and budget personnel team, with a budget of approximately $13 million.

Baker will report to the director as LLNL CFO, as well as to the Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS) Board of Governors as the LLNS treasurer. (LLNS manages the Laboratory for the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration).

"Kathy will be an effective leader of the Lab's CFO organization," Albright said. "She is customer and employee-oriented and has built positive relationships across the DOE complex, as well as with corporate management stakeholders. She has a reputation for effectively applying her broad knowledge and strategic focus on sound financial management practices and is well respected both here and external to LLNL."

Baker brings more than 20 years of diverse experience to her new role. She has served in numerous senior operational management roles at the Laboratory, including Work for Others Division manager, deputy controller, controller, and most recently in addition to controller, acting associate director for the Planning and Financial Services Directorate.

Prior to joining the Laboratory in 2001, she served as the business manager of the energy and environmental management group at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) from 1995-2001; and as the project control, contract administrator and contracting officer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory from 1984-1995.

Baker has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Washington State University and a master's degree in organizational development from Central Washington University. She is a member of the National Contract Management Association and the Institute of Management Accountants. "We look forward to Kathy's service on the senior management team as CFO and in assisting us in fulfilling our strategic goals of ensuring operations excellence and best business practices," Albright said.
