Energy conservation effort kicks off at Laboratory (March 21, 2008)

The chart below, suggested by representatives of competing energy-savings teams (see the March 7, 2008 story ) is a rough graphical representation of electrical loads that range from less than 10 to more than 1,000 watts.

To minimize energy consumed, restrict the length of time the device is left on (shutting off at power strip to avoid standby load when not in use), share printers and other devices, and replace older equipment with energy-efficient models.
