Pay Range
$183,990 - $236,316 Annually for the TSL.4 level

Job Description
We have an opening for a Weapon Quality Assurance (WQA) Manager in our Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) program. You will be responsible for programmatically leading a team to ensure WTE program quality policies and procedures are in place to meet requirements associated with the NNSA Weapons Quality Policy and related federal-level requirements. WTE provides nuclear weapon engineering design expertise; systems engineering; experimental device design; fabrication and assembly; surveillance of nuclear stockpile components; engineering analysis and computational simulation; and engineering testing for evaluation and maintenance of the enduring nuclear weapon stockpile and modernization programs. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the Engineering Directorate.
Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.
You will
- Lead a team and provide direction to solve highly complex problems in Quality Assurance (QA) for nuclear weapons design, production, and surveillance.
- Use independent judgement in the application of formal quality assurance practices and statistical tools to characterize, measure, and optimize the integration of quality management elements into technical and administrative processes.
- Influence and implement strategic decisions made by senior management and external customers.
- Establish and ensure WTE programmatic QA objectives are achieved remaining in full compliance with LLNL policy and procedure requirements imposed by the Department of Energy (DOE) and Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS) contract, including applicable laws and regulations.
- Set direction for Quality Assurance implementation including maintaining QA plans and procedures as needed and perform assessments to ensure operations are meeting QA requirements.
- Routinely interact with program personnel, and QA personnel of other organizations internal and external to LLNL, including NNSA.
- Ensure personnel understand implications and implementation of QA criteria and how it applies to their work and mentor personnel in the areas of QA to meet contractual requirements.
- Allocate resources, select methods and approaches to achieve objectives, develop and direct work schedules, assign tasks, monitor work flow to achieve established goals and objectives, and ensure projects and tasks are completed on schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent combination of education and significant related experience.
- Demonstrated ability and significant experience applying sound quality practices within a research and development organization.
- Experience leading a team of professionals and technical personnel on an independent, self-directed basis, and demonstrated effective personnel management strategies in challenging work environments.
- Experience with Configuration Management (CM) processes to maintain consistency of a products performance, functional and physical attributes related to design, manufacturing and operational characteristics throughout the Product Lifecycle.
- Expert communication, facilitation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, present and explain technical or operational information, and advise senior management, external sponsors, regulators, reviewers, and stakeholders.
- Ability and flexibility to reprioritize and change programmatic direction depending on emerging requests and priorities and to resolve conflicting work requirements.
- Ability to independently advise, recommend, and approve appropriate actions implementing solutions to complex technical problems using a high degree of independent judgment.
Qualifications We Desire
- Significant experience in weapon quality management systems such as DPBPS, NAP 401.1, NQA-1, ISO9001, ISO 17025 or equivalent for supporting Design Agency (DA) or Production Agency (PA) activities.
- Subject-matter expert-level knowledge of DOE regulations and orders pertaining to weapon design and/or manufacturing and significant experience working with DOE sponsors.
- Experience in implementation and sustainment of a calibration program for measurement and test equipment

Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
