Job Description
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on xenon-based dark matter search and R&D activities. You will lead detector R&D activities using a liquid xenon time projection chamber at LLNL and search for dark matter interactions using data from the LUX-ZEPLIN experiment. This position is in the Rare Event Detection group of the Nuclear and Chemical Sciences Division.
In this role you will:
- Operate a dual-phase liquid xenon detector and upgrade the data acquisition system.
- Measure neutron-xenon interactions and perform data analysis.
- Participate in the LUX-ZEPLIN experiment, including detector operation and data analysis.
- Develop and test new concepts to improve the sensitivity of dark matter searches
- Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present results at conferences, seminars, and/or technical meetings.
- Collaborate within multi-institution and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Perform independent research and develop solutions to challenging technical problems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- PhD in experimental particle physics, high-energy physics, or related field.
- Experience in constructing and operating particle physics experiments.
- Knowledge of data acquisition systems.
- Experience with data analysis and simulations using ROOT and Geant4 packages.
- Experience with C++ and Python programming languages.
- Ability to work independently on technical hardware and software tasks, provide in-depth analyses, and develop technical solutions.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, students, and technical and administrative staff.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills necessary to deliver presentations and prepare written reports.
Qualifications we desire:
- Experience with high channel count data acquisition systems.
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques.
