Pay
$22.10 - $30.00 Hourly
This position is under a step structure. Please note that the step placement is determined by your most recent completed academic year.
Job Description
We have multiple openings for undergraduate level students to engage in practical experience to further their educational goals. You will have the chance to support engineering projects involving research, conceptual design, analysis, or technology development. If you are energetic and enthusiastic with knowledge and interest in at least one of these skill areas: mechanical, electrical, systems, materials, manufacturing, or test engineering this internship could be a good match for you. These positions are in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED) supporting the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Principal Directorate.
In this role you will
- Work directly with a mentor in your field of study while finding solutions to real world problems.
- Participate in research in assigned area, under close supervision.
- Gather and analyze data or information in support of engineering research.
- Document and communicate results of technical data generated.
- Share engineering information and promoting open dialogue.
- Attend relevant seminars.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering.
- Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during the summer.
- A track record of outstanding academic performance.
- Eagerness to contribute in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
- Must have excellent leadership, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications We Desire
- GPA of 3.5 or above.
- Technical project experience, internships, leadership experience.
- Completion of Junior year at start of internship.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

Per the Department of Energy (DOE), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory must meet certain restrictions with the use and/or possession of mobile devices in Limited Areas. Depending on your job duties, you may be required to work in a Limited Area where you are not permitted to have a personal and/or laboratory mobile device in your possession. This includes, but not limited to cell phones, tablets, fitness devices, wireless headphones, and other Bluetooth/wireless enabled devices.
If you use a medical device, which pairs with a mobile device, you must still follow the rules concerning the mobile device in individual sections within Limited Areas. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
