Pay Range

$113,730- 146,076 annually for the TSS.2 level

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have needs for multiple Project Managers for Facility Construction within the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate. NIF houses the world’s highest energy pulsed laser system and provides the scientific community with an unprecedented capability for studying materials at extreme pressures, temperatures, and densities.  As a NIF&PS Project Manager, you will be responsible for successfully managing mechanical, electrical and facility construction projects for NIF&PS, and in support of its operations.  These positions are in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division of the Engineering Directorate.

In this role, you will

  • Lead the planning, design, execution, and completion of a diverse range of moderately complex to complex small-scale retrofits to large-scale new construction projects, serving as the single point of contact between internal clients, contracting offices, design engineers, and external contractors.
  • Directly collaborate with internal clients to ensure project and programmatic requirements are well defined and achieved, partner closely with the project’s internal Construction Manager during pre-construction and construction activities.
  • Oversee the project baseline cost, schedule, and scope. Control variances and apply Earned Value Management practices.
  • Ensure a strong quality control and quality assurance program is implemented throughout the project lifecycle, utilizing LLNL standards throughout.
  • Oversee design and constructability reviews to confirm design drawings and specifications meet all applicable code, construction, client, environmental, safety and health (ES&H) requirements, while working independently, under limited direction.
  • Oversee the process to secure required building and work permits.
  • Prepare project construction estimates for program approval and project procurement.
  • Review contractor change requests for scope, schedule, and cost impacts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Structural, Architectural, Industrial Engineering or Construction Management or the equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and broad experience with various project delivery tools, methods, and contract forms, such as design-build and design-bid-build.
  • Experience with construction means, methods, and products.
  • Broad knowledge of and experience in construction management at a project manager level.
  • Experience with construction in cleanroom, industrial and/or laboratory facilities.
  • Experience promoting and implementing safe work practices, including OSHA, environmental, safety and health standards.
  • Experience working in a technical and multidisciplinary environment, including working directly with architects, engineers, technicians, and designers.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to collaborate within an integrated team.

Qualifications We Desire

  • The ability to attain a license as Professional Engineer (PE), Architect or equivalent certification in another state.
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Project Management Professional (PMP) or other related certification.
  • Knowledge of LEED principles, including certification or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Familiarity with California Building and Life Safety Codes, including OSHA and NFPA, and national consensus standards, such as NEC, ASTM, ANSI, ASME, and ASHRAE.
