Pay Range

$114,630.00  - $142,332.00  Annually for the 390.1 level
$138,750.00  - $172,284.00  Annually for the 390.2 level

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have an opening for Supervisor or Senior Supervisor of the Plastics and Materials Characterization Groups.  In this position you will perform direct administrative supervision of exempt or non-exempt technical employees. Other responsibilities are ES&H compliance, code regulation or standards compliance, and working on complex to highly complex technical projects. In the technical role, you will be responsible for solving technical and logistical issues. This position is in the Materials & NDE Section of the Materials Engineering Division, within the Engineering Directorate.     

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

In this role you will 

  • Provide leadership and supervision to plan/set priorities and staff assignments.
  • Meet performance management goals (e.g.: appraisals, ranking/promotion recommendations). 
  • Provide staff’s career development and technical guidance, initiate personnel actions.
  • Manage the work center budget, forecast hiring and equipment needs/costs.
  • Interact with program/project managers, customers, staff, and other support organizations.
  • Lead/participate in meetings to determine and solve technical solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to staff and others.
  • Apply technical expertise to support programmatic efforts.
  • Represent division at meetings, briefings, and other activities.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and functional laboratory environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the 390.2 level

  • Provide advanced technical oversight and administrative supervision.
  • Provide advanced leadership and supervision to plan/set work priorities and staff assignments.
  • Plan long-range missions, goals, and work activities to ensure future programs goals are met.

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Industrial Technology, or Manufacturing Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical or engineering field.
  • Ability to effectively manage Plastics and Materials Characterization Groups activities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to balance work assignments and anticipate programmatic needs.
  • Organizational skills including the use of computers and software (e.g.: MS Office) programs.
  • Ability to effectively work with and lead a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to develop analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to manage groups’ equipment and staff including common manufacturing technologies.

Additional qualifications at the 390.2 level

  • Experience leading/supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience balancing work assignments and anticipate programmatic needs.
  • Well-developed skills in analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making of complex problems.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience working with polymer and characterization equipment.
  • Experience of polymer and polymer-based compounds.
